If you think the string of $1 million prizes that Floridians have won from Florida Lottery scratch-offs were impressive, it’s time to rethink your definition of “impressive.”
This past week, the Florida Lottery announced it had launched a scratch-off game with two $25 million top prizes, making it the biggest scratch-off top prize in Florida Lottery history.
The game, 500X The Cash, is part of the Lottery’s X the Cash series that launched in January.
Big prizes, big price tag
500X the Cash has a prize pool of more than $1.5 billion, a virtually unheard-of number for a scratch off. The game’s top prizes and odds are as follows:
- $25 million (two prizes): 1-in-21,419,145
- $1 million (160 prizes): 1-in-267,739
- $50,000 (300 prizes): 1-in-428,383
- $20,000 (2,147 prizes): 1-in-19,953
The Florida Lottery’s Billion Gold Rush Supreme is the scratch-off with the next highest top prize, $15 million. So far, two of the four $15 million prizes have been claimed.
While the 500X the Cash game’s biggest prize is substantial, its price is as well. Each ticket costs $50, making it the most expensive scratch-off in the Florida Lottery’s lineup right now.
Billion Gold Rush Supreme and Fastest Road to $1,000,000 are $30 each. Five other scratch-offs cost $20.
500X losers still have a chance at a Florida Lottery payday
For those who strike out on their 500X the Cash scratchers, another chance remains.
The Florida Lottery will allow all non-winning tickets in the X the Cash line to enter the XTRA Bonus Play promotion. Through Apr. 11, X the Cash players can enter their non-winning tickets on the Lottery’s website.
Later this year, the Lottery will announce winners of cash prizes of $25,000, $5,000, or $1,000.
Other Florida Lottery scratch-offs offer substantial prizes
In total, there are six denominations of X the Cash games: 500X, 200X, 100X, 50X, 20X, and 10X.
The top prize for each game is:
- 500X ($50 for one ticket): $25 million
- 200X ($20): $5 million
- 100X ($10): $2 million
- 50X ($5): $1 million
- 20X ($2): $100,000
- 10X ($1): $10,000
In total, the X the Cash series offers a combined total prize pool of more than $2.2 billion.
The majority of the proceeds from X the Cash sales (along will all other scratch-offs) will be put toward Florida’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
Scratch-offs play a key role in the EETF’s funding, according to the Florida Lottery. In all, scratch-offs account for 75% of ticket sales.
In the 2020-21 fiscal year, scratch-off sales generated more than $1 billion for the EETF.
