Florida Poker Tournaments Guarantee $6 Million In January Prize Pools

The holidays brought a lull by Florida poker standards, but January brings new beginnings that make such a lull seem further removed than the holiday season.

What kind of beginnings? How about more than $6 million in guaranteed prize pools at half a dozen rooms across the Sunshine State?

Florida online poker may remain illegal, but the state continues to thrive as a card-playing destination. This rings even truer during the pleasant winter weather months, and venues like Seminole Hard Rock, bestbet Jacksonville and Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club will take full advantage in January.

Outside of the major events, around 20 Florida poker rooms offer daily tournaments with smaller buy-ins and shorter run times. These daily events provide another option for players who don’t want to commit to multi-day events, travel costs or high-stakes events.

January 2024 Florida live poker tournaments

The Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Lucky Hearts Poker Open takes the spotlight on Florida’s poker tournament calendar in January, accounting for nearly $4.5 million of all guarantees in the state.

Seminole Hard Rock Tampa’s Winter Poker Open and bestbet Jacksonville’s Winter Open also run in January, as do additional one-off events with six-figure guarantees.

One-off events are provided below, followed by a summary of Florida’s three January poker tournament series.

• January 1-6: $100,000 guaranteed at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek ($200 buy-in, 10 starting flights across five days at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.)
• January 4-7: $100,000 guaranteed at Palm Beach Kennel Club ($300 buy-in, five starting flights across three days at 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.)
• January 6: $100,000 guaranteed one-day event at SHR Tampa ($500 buy-in at 11 a.m.)
• January 17-22: $200,000 guaranteed GAPT WInter Deep Stack at Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club ($400 buy-in, eight starting flights across four days at 11:10 a.m. and 6:10 p.m.)

2024 Lucky Hearts Poker Open

The 2024 Lucky Hearts Poker Open at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood runs from Jan. 11-23 and features over 50 events, including over a dozen side events with guaranteed prize pools totaling nearly $2.5 million.

It features a $3,500 no-limit hold ’em main event with a $2 million guaranteed prize pool. It has two starting flights on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20. The tournament concludes on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Other highlights include:

• January 11-15: $1 million guaranteed ($600 buy-in, six starting flights across three days)
• January 15-17: $200,000 guaranteed ($200 buy-in, six starting flights across two days)
• January 17-19: $200,000 guaranteed PLO ($600 buy-in, three starting flights across two days)
• January 18: $100,000 guaranteed NLH ($1,100 buy-in) at 11 a.m.; $25,500 High Roller at noon. Both are two-day events.
• January 21: $100,000 guaranteed NLH purple chip bounty ($1,700 buy-in)
• January 21-23: $200,000 guaranteed ($400 NLH, three starting flights across two days)
• January 23: $200,000 guaranteed NLH ($5,000 buy-in)

bestbet Jacksonville’s Winter Open

North Florida’s bestbet Jacksonville begins its 2024 Winter Open during the LHPO Main Event. The entire series runs from Jan. 18-29 and has nine events on the calendar.

Two of those events are multi-flight events that offer six-figure guarantees. The opening weekend $400 buy-in no-limit hold’em has a $100,000 guarantee with six starting flights between Jan. 18-20. There are two per day at noon at 6 p.m. The field plays down to a winner on Sunday, Jan. 21.

The $2,000 no-limit hold ’em main event takes place the following weekend, from Jan. 26-28. It has a $300,000 guarantee and two starting flights, one per day at noon on the 26th and 27th.

Winter Poker Open at SHR Tampa

The Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open is Florida’s final January poker series. It kicks off on Jan. 24 and concludes on Feb. 5. Its start coincides with bestbet’s main event but begins immediately after the LHPO ends.

Thus, the two SHR properties create the chance to stay in the state’s southern half for nearly an entire month. The Winter Poker Open has nine events, including six with a combined $605,000 in guaranteed prize pools. The largest events include:

• Jan. 24-28: $200,000 guaranteed ($400 buy-in, six starting flights across three days)
• Jan. 29-31: $50,000 guaranteed DeepStack Challenge ($700 buy-in, starting flights on Jan. 29 and 30 at 1 p.m.)
• Feb. 1-5: $300,000 guaranteed Championship ($1,700 buy-in, starting flights Feb. 1-3 at 11 a.m.)

December Florida tournament results

December featured more than a handful of in-house events with noteworthy guaranteed prize pools from poker rooms in Florida. Some of the biggest winners from the month included:

• The 328-entry SHR Tampa $700 Deepstack Challenge more than doubled its $100,000 guarantee with a $200,080 prize pool. It resulted in a three-way chop between John Lyons ($34,021), Liam Hagens ($30,873) and Clyde Maliauka ($24,906).
• At the beginning of December, the SHR Tampa $400 Deepstack Challenge attracted 992 entries and created a prize pool of $327,360. Gabriel Fuller won outright for $54,990.
• Scott Baumstein won the SHR Hollywood Fun In The Sun Event #1 ($100,000 guaranteed) for $35,405. The $400 event drew 546 entries over two starting flights, creating a $182,900 prize pool.
• Brenden Gluck won the 175-entry $600 Fun In The Sun no-limit hold’em ($50K Guaranteed) with a heads-up chop. He earned $21,183 of the $91,875 prize pool.
• Ronald Bell and Matthew McPherson chopped the $250 Daytona Beach GAPT Holiday Classic for $26,607 each. The event received 901 entries and generated a $180,200 prize pool.
• SHR Hollywood’s $150 Big Stack Special drew 1,292 entries for a $149,900 prize pool. It resulted in a seven-way chop. Five players notched five-figure scores, and Trey Brauch earned the top prize of $14,334.
• Caleb Larsen ($13,518) and Eric Chastain ($10,500) chopped the bestbet Orange Park GOPO $400 no-limit hold’em. A 183-entry field brought about a $60,390 prize pool, exceeding the $40,000 guarantee by more than 50%.

Florida daily poker tournaments in January

Florida poker rooms run daily tournaments, allowing players to participate in shorter events every day of the week. These single-day events often take a handful of hours to complete and have smaller buy-ins than the tournament series above.
