We have reached the second half of 2023, and Florida poker rooms are welcoming players back from Las Vegas and the World Series of Poker with a slew of tournaments to begin the month.
Venues like Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood and Seminole Hard Rock Tampa have full calendars all month, starting with $100K guarantees early in July.
SHR Hollywood finishes the month with its 2023 Poker Open, which carries into August after its opening-weekend $1 million guarantee.
The Florida poker scene has another big event at Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club at the end of the month that has a $300K guarantee, the largest of the year.
Beyond major competitions, Florida boasts 20 thriving poker rooms that run daily tournaments.
July 2023 Florida live poker tournaments
July brings large tournaments to bookend its monthly calendar, starting with back-to-back six-figure guarantees on the Gulf Coast.
Across the state, other rooms, such as Palm Beach Kennel Club and SHR Hollywood, have events with equal guarantees.
North Florida has its fair share of events, too, including guaranteed tournaments at bestbet Orange Park and Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club.
Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood July Big Stack and 2023 Poker Open
SHR Hollywood starts the month with a $150 buy-in July Big Stack Special, which runs from July 5-9.
The tournament offers seven starting flights, two per day except for Saturday. Cards go in the air at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. for these flights, with the field combining on Sunday to play for the title.
Afterward, the SHR Hollywood 2023 Poker Open offers $1.7 million in guarantees for preliminary events alone, with another $5.5 million promised for the Main Event, High Roller and other closing tournaments. The full series begins on July 26 and runs through Aug. 8.
As for the July part, the series opens with a $400 Deep Stack $1 million guaranteed.
Structures will be posted soon, but the tournament follows a similar course to the $100K event at the start of the month. There will be eight flights for this event, though, including a second and final flight on Saturday evening.
GAPT Summer Deep Stack $300K guaranteed
The Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club Great American Poker Tournaments series’ $300K guaranteed event is part of its year-long GAPT series. Monthly events usually have $100K guarantees but have ranged between $50K and $200K this year.
This tournament runs at the end of the month, from July 20-24. The first three days offer two starting flights, beginning at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Everybody who advances will return on Sunday to play down to the final table before determining the winner on Monday.
The top three players on the GAPT leaderboard at the end of the year will earn tournament vouchers good for $500, $300 and $200, respectively.
$100K guarantees at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa
Seminole Hard Rock Tampa runs consecutive $100K guaranteed events across July’s first two weekends.
The first is the 2023 Tampa Deepstacks Challenge. It has a $700 buy-in and runs from June 29 to July 2, with three starting flights before playing down to a winner on the final day.
SHR Tampa’s monthly one-day $100K tournament comes the following weekend, on July 8. This event begins at 11 a.m., and players may enter until 3:30 p.m. Levels last 30 minutes each for the duration of the tournament.
Outside of these events, SHR Tampa boasts one of the best tournament schedules with over $300,000 in daily guarantees.
PBKC and bestbet complete the calendar
Those away from the Seminole Hard Rock areas can also compete in significant events during the July 6-9 weekend.
Palm Beach Kennel Club’s monthly $100K runs with five flights: one on July 6 and two on July 7 and July 8. Play begins at 11:15 a.m. for early flights and 4:15 p.m. for the later ones.
Satellite tournaments will also run for this event on July 5-7 at 6:15 p.m. each day for $65.
Lastly, the bestbet Orange Park G.O.P.O. 300 runs as a single-day tournament on July 9. This event features a $300 buy-in and a $30K guarantee.
June highlights from Florida poker tournaments
By Florida’s standards, June was a slower month for poker tournaments, but that didn’t stop the following players from cashing in on five-figure paydays:
- Michael Augustyn won the $600 bestbet Jacksonville Summer Swing Series Main Event, topping a field of 529 entries to earn $49,853;
- The bestbet St. Augustine Summer Swing event resulted in a five-way chop, with Brian White as the official winner. All five earned $16,856;
- Kevin Hazzard was the official winner of a five-way chop in bestbet Orange Park’s Summer Swing. All five players won $11,184; and
- Nicholas Gagne won the SHR Hollywood $150 Big Stack Special, outlasting 1,469 entries to earn $16,906.
Other major events from June have yet to post results at the time of publishing. These include:
- Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club GAPT $100K guaranteed;
- Palm Beach Kennel Club monthly $100K guaranteed;
- SHR Tampa $100K guaranteed single-day event; and
- SHR Tampa Little Slick $200K guaranteed.
