The Florida Lottery believes It’s Good Fun to play lottery games in the Sunshine State.

That’s the slogan behind the new campaign.

And according to Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis, the slogan conveys a double message.

“This campaign marks a pivotal moment in the Florida Lottery’s journey over the past 37 years, reaffirming our support of education, player engagement, and delivering the best games possible. ‘It’s good fun’ is more than a tagline –our players already know the fun of play with the good every game provides to education.”

Unpacking the ‘Good’

Proceeds from the Florida Lottery directly impact communities across the state. Specifically, Lottery funds enhance the state’s educational system. Since its inception in 1988, the Lottery’s contribution to education is among the highest amount in the nation. Over the last 30-plus years, the lottery helped nearly 1 billion students attend college.

One of the lottery’s largest beneficiaries is the Bright Futures Scholarship Fund. The program helps send Florida high school students to Florida universities. The fund received nearly $8 billion from the Florida Lottery since its inception.

In September, Davis said the Florida Lottery reached a milestone when it surpassed $47 billion in total contributions to Florida’s education system.

“Every dollar contributed helps to build a brighter future for our youth, supporting their dreams and educational aspirations.”

Nationally, the Florida Lottery ranks second (only to the New York Lottery) in terms of educational contributions. New York and Florida are the only states that cracked the $40 billion mark.

The ‘Fun’ of winning

Take one look at the Florida Lottery website and you’ll see a number of individuals and families taking home some major winnings.

On its recent winners page, seven players were recognized for winning $1 million. One man took home $15 million, and another claimed $250,000 a year for life.

The Florida Lottery has handed out more than a billion dollars to winners on two different occasions. One was just last year when the largest Mega Millions jackpot in history was claimed in Florida at a Publix in Neptune Beach to the tune of $1.602 billion. Another happened in 2016.
