Gators vs. Hurricanes Odds – NCAAF Rivalry

Online sports betting is not yet active in Florida. This page will be updated with the latest promos, news and odds once Florida sportsbooks launch.

In the state of Florida, there are rivals and then there are RIVALS. Since 1938, the Florida Gators and the Miami Hurricanes absolutely defined what it means to dislike an in-state opponent.

While they may not have each other on the schedule each season, there is never a long break between showdowns. The last meeting between the teams ended with a Florida win in 2019. The next two meetings are home and home contests for each program in 2024 and 2025.

As a bettor in the state of Florida, you’re no doubt keenly aware of how intense these matchups can get. The last two meetings were decided by five points or fewer, and there’s no reason to believe that the next time these two teams square off, it won’t be a tightly contested game.

While you still have plenty of time between now and the next time the Gators and Hurricanes kick off against each other, we wanted to get you this guide for betting on the matchup, including information on the odds, history, and how to bet. Read on for more.

Best NCAAF betting sites in Florida

The recent surge in legal sports betting in states across the US has led to an explosion in quality sportsbooks. From the old standout names that still hail from Las Vegas to new and innovative companies, they provide sports bettors with an impressive variety to choose from.

Below is a list of the best legal online sportsbooks in Florida. You can simply click on the name of a sportsbook if you’d like to go to its website.

Best bets for Gators vs. Hurricanes game

College football offers an impressive variety of bets each and every week. Since football, in general, is the most popular sport to bet on in the United States, sportsbooks tend to give it a lot of attention.

Big rivalry games like Florida against Miami will offer a wide selection of betting options. While more experienced sports bettors can navigate those choices easily, newer bettors may have some questions. Below, we outline three of the most common and popular bets for NCAA football:

Moneyline

The moneyline is a simple bet, really, requiring you to choose the victor between the two teams in any game. If you’re right, you win. If not, you lose. The way you’re going to see most money line bets presented at books like BetMGM Sportsbook in Florida will be as follows:

Florida Gators(-120)
Miami Hurricanes(+135)

Looking at those numbers, we can tell the oddsmakers have Florida favored to win. Teams with positive numbers, like Miami in this example, are the underdogs.

The closer those two numbers are to each other indicates how tight of a matchup the sportsbook is expecting. If one team was heavily favored, the range between the negative and positive numbers would be more significant.

If you were to bet on the Gators in this example, you’d need to wager $120 for every $100 you hope to win. Your payout on a winning $120 bet would be $220, which is the original bet returned to you plus your profit. If you were to wager on Miami, then you’d win $135 for every $100 you wagered. If you made that exact bet and won, you’d get a payout of $235.

Point spread

The point spread betting aims to even the wagering field between two teams. It allows bettors to more confidently wager on the underdog by assigning a spread number that the favorite must win by for bets on that side to win. And if you want to bet on the favorite, you’ll generally get more favorable odds than you would on the moneyline.

Here’s what a spread bet looks like at HardRock FL:

Miami Hurricanes-7.5 (-110)
Florida Gators+7.5 (-110)

In our example, we see that the oddsmakers have Miami as a 7.5-point favorite. If you were to wager on the Canes and they won the game 28-21, you would lose your bet. If the final score was 29-21, however, you would win.

The odds for either side of the bet are -110. That means, like above, a wager of that amount would win $100 if it turned out to be correct. Of course, you don’t have to wager that amount exactly. You can bet the amount that you want, and the potential payout will change to reflect your bet.

Totals

Another name for this bet is the over/under. Sportsbooks determine how many points they believe the two teams will combine to score in the game. You can then bet on whether the actual total will be over or under that number. Here’s how a totals bet would be displayed at PointsBet Sportsbook Florida:

Over48.5 (-110)
Under48.5 (-110)

If you wager on the over and the final score ends up being 30-21, then your bet would win since the total would add up to 51 points. However, a 28-20 game would end up being a loss for an over bet since the final tally was only 48.

Like our point spread example, the half-point exists to make sure there are no ties that would lead to nobody winning and sportsbooks refunding wagers.

Florida Gators vs. Miami Hurricanes live betting

Live betting, though relatively new, is quickly becoming a favorite across the country. It allows you to make wagers on games while they are taking place.

You can generally place any of the above wagers as a live bet, with odds that will shift from their pregame numbers to reflect what is happening on the gridiron. And prop betting is another popular live betting option. The variety you’ll be able to choose from depends on the sportsbook you’re using. Some examples include how the next score will happen, which team will lead at the half, or whether there will be a late-game comeback victory.

To place a live bet, you’ll likely need to use an online sportsbook or an app. The reason is simple: Shifting odds. You want an option that will allow you to bet when you see some odds that you like, and not have to wait in line at a sportsbook window as the situation on the field changes and the odds you liked are no longer there.

Florida vs. Miami betting trends

The first time these two teams met was Oct. 15, 1938, and Miami escaped with the win, 19-7.

Throughout the decades, the two teams have squared off against each other 56 times. With Florida’s 24-20 victory in their last matchup on Aug. 24, 2019, the Gators cut into Miami’s overall series lead. At the moment, the Hurricanes hold a very slim overall edge with a 29-27 record.

The largest margin of victory in any game between the two teams came in 1940 when the Gators beat the Canes 46-6. Florida also has the longest winning streak in the matchup — seven games from 1971 to 1977.
