ReliaQuest Bowl Odds
Online sports betting is not yet active in Florida. This page will be updated with the latest promos, news and odds once Florida sportsbooks launch.
Tampa has hosted NCAA bowl games since 1947, but it wasn’t until 1986 that it became the permanent home to what is now known as the ReliaQuest Bowl, formerly known until this season as the Outback Bowl. The game, which features teams from the Big Ten and the SEC, almost always takes place annually on Jan. 1.
The regular venue is Raymond James Stadium, which is also home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the University of South Florida Bulls, and the Gasparilla Bowl.
The ReliaQuest Bowl often features nationally ranked teams and is a big draw for NCAA football fans. They aren’t the only ones who are excited about the game in Florida though, especially with the legalization of sports betting. Bettors looking to get in on the Outback Bowl action should take a look at this guide before betting on the game.

Best ReliaQuest Bowl bets
Football has long been one of the most popular sports for watching and, now, betting. And it is no different in Florida. From odds on the Miami Dolphins to Tampa Bay Buccaneers odds, to Florida State Seminoles odds, Miami Hurricanes odds, UCF and more, football has a large presence at the sportsbooks.
So it’s no surprise that the bowl games in the state generate a lot of interest. It just so happens, college football betting offers a variety of options. Here are three of the most popular bets you’re likely to come across for the ReliaQuest Bowl :
ReliaQuest Bowl moneyline bets
Place a bet on one team or the other to win the game outright. This simplicity makes the moneyline a popular option with new bettors. However, the betting odds on either side can add some additional considerations.
The odds will determine the potential payout. If a team has negative odds (such as -150), then that team is the favorite. A team with positive odds (like +135) at DraftKings Sportsbook is the underdog.
With negative odds, a moneyline bet of that amount would win a profit of $100 if correct. Using our example above, if you bet $150, you would get back $250 if you won — your initial wager plus the $100 in winnings. For positive odds, you would stand to win that number for every $100 you bet. So a $100 bet at odds of +135 would bring back $235 if you won — your stake plus $135 in profit.
ReliaQuest Bowl point spreads
The point spread aims to even the playing field with regard to bets on two teams, especially those where the favorite is expected to absolutely trounce the underdog.
The sportsbook will assign a spread in points to the game. For a bet on the favorite to win, that side would need to win by more than the spread number. For a bet on the underdog to win, that team would need to lose by fewer points than the spread or win the game by any score. With the spread evening out the two teams, the odds will generally be right around -110 on both sides.
For example, let’s say BetMGM sports betting site has the Florida Gators as a -6.5 favorite over the Michigan State Spartans in an upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl . Both teams have -110 odds.
If Florida wins the game 27-20, then it covered the spread, and a bet on the Gators of $110 would win a profit of $100. Of course, you don’t have to wager that exact amount. You can wager more or less, and your potential payout will reflect the same ratio.
The half-point in the spread number — 6.5 rather than 6 or 7 — is common in such bets. It is there to keep the final score from ending exactly on the spread. In such a situation, the sportsbook would return all bets as neither side “won.”
ReliaQuest Bowl totals
Also known as over/unders, these are bets on the total combined score of a game. It doesn’t matter which team wins. The sportsbook will provide an estimated total score before the game, and you can wager whether the actual total will be over or under that line.
As an example, you might see the total line for an upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl at 61.5 points at Caesars Sportsbook. Let’s say the final score is 35-28. With a final total score of 63, you would win your bet if you had bet “over,” and you would lose if you had bet “under.”
Most of the time, both the over and the under options carry the same odds — again, usually right around -110 on both sides — though they may shift slightly from there.
How to bet on the ReliaQuest Bowl live
Live betting is an increasingly popular way to bet, allowing you to wager on a game as you watch it play out. Common betting options are updated versions of the bets above, as well as various prop bets that can range from things like “Which player is going to score the next touchdown?” to “Will there be over/under three field goals in the game?” to “Will there be a fourth-quarter comeback victory?”
In a game like the ReliaQuest Bowl, you can expect the selection to be pretty robust if for no other reason than the popularity of college bowl games.
Live betting generally requires a sportsbook website or app, as the speed at which the odds change requires an online connection for you to be able to keep up and get a bet in if you see something you like. Plus, if you’re watching the game in person or from a bar, you can use your phone to place a bet if you want to.

ReliaQuest Bowl facts & figures
We are a sucker for some fun facts, which is why we hunted down the following information about the ReliaQuest Bowl that you can use to stump your friends on trivia night:
- The ReliaQuest Bowl isn’t the first bowl game in Tampa. That honor goes to the Cigar Bowl, which took place at Phillips Field near downtown from 1947-1954.
- The first edition of the ReliaQuest Bowl, on Dec. 23, 1986, as the Hall of Fame Bowl, was between Boston College and Georgia. The Eagles defeated Georgia 27-24 in front of approximately 41,000 fans.
- The attendance record for the ReliaQuest Bowl is 68,085, which happened on Jan. 1, 1990, when the No. 9 Auburn Tigers defeated No. 21 Ohio State by a score of 31-14.
- Two teams are tied for the most ReliaQuest Bowl appearances: Iowa and Michigan have both been to the ReliaQuest Bowl six times, and both teams have 3-3 records as of 2021.
- The most combined points in a single edition of the ReliaQuest Bowl came in 2010 when Auburn defeated Northwestern in overtime, 38-35, for a combined 73 points.
- In 2010, Northwestern quarterback Mike Kafka set the ReliaQuest Bowl record for the most passing yards in the game with a staggering 532. He also holds the record for most passing touchdowns with four.
- The record for the most rushing yards came from running back Melvin Gordon in 2015 when he led his No. 17 Wisconsin Badgers to a 34-31 overtime win over No. 18 Auburn. He rushed for 251 yards and was named MVP for the game.
- Tavarres King set the record for most receiving yards with 205 as a member of the Georgia Bulldogs in 2012 when his team fell to Michigan State in triple overtime, 33-30.
- There have been some pretty long returns for touchdowns in the ReliaQuest Bowl over the years. Two players share the record for the longest kickoff return at 96 yards (Iowa’s Jordan Cotton in 2014 and Auburn’s Noah Igbinoghene in 2020), and Georgia’s Brandon Boykin set the mark for longest punt return in 2012 with a 92-yard jaunt. For the longest interception return on record, two players have taken a pick back 100 yards (Auburn’s Walter McFadden in 2010 and Tennessee’s Evan Berry in 2016).
- Looking at the fewest yards allowed and fewest rushing yards allowed categories for the ReliaQuest Bowl, you would assume Iowa absolutely routed Mississippi State in 2019. The Hawkeyes held the Bulldogs to just 199 total offensive yards and -15 rushing yards. The game, however, was much closer than those stats indicate, as Iowa escaped with a 27-22 victory.
