The Florida tournament poker scene offers year-round opportunities to play for life-changing sums of money. September is no different, with more than $3.5 million in guarantees across the state.
Seminole Hard Rock Tampa headlines the list of major events with its Signature Poker Series, which runs for two weeks, from Sept. 6-19. The series features 25 primary events and an additional 26 secondary events and satellite tournaments.
When the Signature Poker Series finishes, SHR Tampa’s sister property in Hollywood will run the smaller, 10-event Everglades Poker Open. Palm Beach Kennel Club, Win! Derby and bestbet’s three casinos also have events on the calendar.
In addition to these events, Florida poker players can participate in daily tournaments in as many as 20 rooms across the state. We detail the month’s offerings below.
September 2023 Florida live poker tournaments
September’s tournament poker calendar includes events at seven Florida poker rooms.
Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Signature Poker Series
Seminole Hard Rock Tampa will attract the most attention in September with its annual Signature Poker Series. The series begins on Wednesday, Sept. 6, with a $400 buy-in multi-flight event that boasts a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.
The 25-event schedule features another $1 million guarantee for its Main Event, which has a $1,700 buy-in with three starting flights from Thursday, Sept. 14 through Saturday, Sept. 16. The Main Event is a four-day tournament, concluding on the final day of the series, Tuesday the 19th.
Win! Derby offers an encore
St. Pete’s Win! Derby Poker Room doesn’t run major events often, but it will ride SHR Tampa’s momentum in September with the $375 buy-in Win!Fall $250,000 guarantee.
Players can enter up to seven starting flights between Tuesday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 23, before the field combines on Sunday to play to a winner.
Anyone looking to get in for a discount can try their hand in any of the room’s six rake-free satellites.
2023 Everglades Poker Open
The Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood poker calendar never seems to let up. Its flagship SHR Poker Open series recently wrapped up (more on that below), and it jumps right into another series in September.
While the Everglades Poker Open won’t match the SHRPO in size or stature, it provides South Florida poker players with another 12 days of events to conclude the month.
Nine events will run over this time, featuring over $500,000 in guaranteed prize pools. Its major events span the schedule’s two weekends:
- Sept. 20-24: $150 Big Stack ($100,000 guaranteed)
- Sept. 27-Oct. 1: $600 Deep Stack ($200,000 guaranteed)
Monthly Florida poker tournaments
The final events on the docket take us to Palm Beach Kennel Club and bestbet’s three casinos.
PBKC runs its monthly $300 buy-in $100,000 Guaranteed Monster Tournament from Sept. 7-10. It offers five starting flights over the first three days, with Day 2 on Sunday the 10th.
Lastly, bestbet has events at each of its locations:
- The St. Augustine Championship runs on Sept. 3, featuring a $300 buy-in and a $30K guarantee.
- The G.O.P.O. 400 takes place at Orange Park on Sept. 16 with a $400 buy-in and a $40K guarantee.
- bestbet Jacksonville finishes with a multi-day $400 buy-in $100K guarantee, which takes place Sept. 21-24.
August Florida Tournament Results
Florida’s August was one for the books in terms of poker tournaments. The 54-event SHRPO featured $8.9 million in guarantees and awarded nearly $18.3 million in total prize pool.
Other major series also ran throughout the state, including the CardPlayer Poker Tour, Harrah’s Florida State Poker Championship and a Moneymaker Tour stop at Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club.
Winners from the SHRPO events included:
- Farid Jattin won the $5,300 SHRPO Championship, topping a $1,070-entry field to earn $655,000. The victory brought his lifetime earnings above $8 million.
- Aaron Mermelstein bested 86 entries in the $25K High Roller for $614,645. It was his second career win in this event.
- Dan Sepiol took down the $2,700 “Big 4” Event from a field of 411 entries. The $204,735 score was a career-best.
- James Carroll won the final “Big 4” Event, a $1,100 buy-in event with 515 entries, good for $100,000.
- Johnny Bromberg took down the opening $400 deep stack on a single bullet, good for $219,490. The tournament was the second-largest in SHRPO history, with 6,253 entries.
- Anthony Zinno and Sam Sternfield won two events apiece throughout the series.
Winners elsewhere in the state:
- The Harrah’s Pompano Beach Florida State Poker Championship produced several big winners, including $1,700 Main Event winner Arthur Peacock, who took down the 456-entry field for a $118,003 payday.
- Its $400 opening event saw 1,163 runners, resulting in a heads-up chop between Ramzi Dagher ($43,662) and Moises Jattin ($42,532). Johnny Bromberg continued his heater, winning the $1,100 event for $38,807.
- Heng Zeng emerged victorious at the bestbet Jacksonville CardPlayer Poker Tour $1,700 Mystery Bounty event. The tournament drew 1,885 entries, and Zheng’s combined prizes totaled $125,010.
- Dion Jagroo won the $1,500 Moneymaker Tour Main Event to conclude the month, beating Ricardo Eyzaguirre heads up for the title after the two agreed to a deal. Jagroo won $102,222, and Eyzaguirre took home $81,383.
