Is betting on the Super Bowl legal in Florida?
The Seminole Tribe’s Hard Rock Bet sports betting app, the only legal sports betting app in the state, relaunched in November 2023 for existing users in Florida after a two-year hiatus that was forced upon the app after its November 2021 launch. West Flagler Associates took the state to court, challenging its compact with the Tribe and effectively shutting down Hard Rock Bet.
The relaunch came right after Seminole Tribe leaders announced all six Seminole casino properties would allow in-person sports betting on Dec. 7, 2023.
The US Supreme Court denied a request by West Flagler Associates to block the compact from going into effect. However, the group may still file an all writs motion with the Florida Supreme Court, forcing the app to shut down again as the case progresses through yet another court.
