Susan Fitton struck proverbial gold twice in one month, winning a pair of $2 million prizes. The 64-year-old Boca Raton woman’s win came from a pair of Mega Millions with Megaplier tickets she purchased in September.
One set of numbers, two $2 million prizes
A player would rarely win a pair of jackpots in one day, let alone a pair of jackpots in one lifetime. But what makes Fitton’s story so interesting is that she won playing two tickets with the same numbers.
The winning lotto ticket numbers for the Sept. 14 drawing were 4, 13, 19, 63 and 64.
According to the Florida Lottery, Fitton purchased the tickets at a Prip Mart gas station on West Camino Real in Boca Raton. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus commission for selling the winning tickets.
Mega Millions pays out 5 Megaplier prizes in Florida
Fitton became the fifth person to win at least $1 million from the lottery’s Mega Millions game.
The four other wins were announced in February (two winners), March and July. Each win was a $1 million prize.
Fitton took home $2 million prizes because she played the Megaplier, which doubles all prizes, up to $5 million. You can play Mega Millions in 44 states; the jackpot starts at $20 million.
Mega Millions launched in 2013, and since that time, the game has contributed $650 million to the Education Enhancement Trust Fund. The state’s Department of Education disburses the funds to the public school system.
Mega Millions has paid out more than $770 million in prizes over the past eight years, and the game has awarded 60 million winners whose prizes have ranged from $2 to more than $1.6 billion.
Anyone interested in playing Mega Millions can purchase lotto tickets at any Florida Lottery-licensed retailer. You cannot buy lottery tickets online in Florida.
