May is another exciting month for poker tournaments in Florida. The World Poker Tour is wrapping up its annual stop in Hollywood, setting the stage for more events to shine leading up to the World Series of Poker, which begins in Las Vegas at the end of the month.
Florida poker players have several series to jump into, including the inaugural Moneymaker Poker Tour at Palm Beach Kennel Club and the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Deep Stack Poker Series.
Other individual events on the calendar include a couple of tournaments with six-figure guarantees on the prize pool. Additionally, there is the Main Event Maynia at Harrah’s Pompano Beach. This massive satellite guarantees at least five WSOP Main Event packages worth $11,000.
The daily tournament schedule is packed across the state, with 19 venues offering multiple events every week.
May 2023 Florida live poker tournaments
The WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown concludes on May 2, wrapping up a 61-event schedule that began on April 13 with a $3,500, $3 million guaranteed main event.
Eight more events will be played in May, four each day, including a $25K buy-in High Roller ($1M guaranteed) and a $5K buy-in ($250K guaranteed). Five of the events have a price point of $600 or less.
Looking ahead, the Moneymaker Tour offers over $1 million in guarantees on its 20-event schedule, including a $500K guaranteed Main Event. Seminole Hard Rock’s Deep Stack series offers $670K worth of guarantees across eight events leading to the end of the month.
Moneymaker Tour and more at PBKC
The one and only Chris Moneymaker, responsible for so many of our starts into the game after winning the 2003 WSOP Main Event, began his own mid-major poker tour this year. Its first stop will run from May 10-24, featuring 20 events and numerous satellite tournaments to larger events.
Leading up to the Moneymaker Tour, PBKC will run its $300 buy-in monthly $100K guaranteed event during the first weekend of the month, from May 4-7. Thursday’s Day 1A begins at 11:15 a.m. with two flights on Friday and Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. All five flights combine on Sunday to play down to a winner.
The two following weekends also feature six-figure guarantees through Moneymaker Tour events:
- Wednesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 13: $500 Kickoff Event ($250K guaranteed)
- Thursday, May 18 through Monday, May 22: $1,500 Main Event ($500K guaranteed)

Harrah’s Pompano Beach Main Event Maynia
If you plan to head out to Las Vegas for this year’s WSOP Main Event, check out Main Event Maynia at Harrah’s Pompano Beach on Sunday, May 21.
The $1,175 buy-in satellite starts at 5 p.m. and will guarantee five seats to the Main Event, good for the $10,000 entry fee plus $1,000 in travel expenses. One in every 10 entries earns a package.
Mega-satellites will run May 16-20 for $140.
Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood’s Spring Deep Stack Series
Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood has another series in May with $670,000 in guarantees. The Spring Deep Stack runs from Thursday, May 18 to Monday, May 29.
Three of the schedule’s eight events feature multiple starting flights and six-figure guarantees. A $400 buy-in with $100,000 guarantee runs from May 18-21, a $600 buy-in with $150,000 guarantee takes place May 22-24 and finally, a $1,700 buy-in with $300,000 guaranteed in the prize pool is scheduled for May 25-28.
Seminole Hard Rock Tampa runs two $100K guarantees
Though not as prominent as its guitar-boasting sister, Seminole Hard Rock Tampa is a world-class resort and poker venue with year-round series, monthly events and daily tournaments.
Its monthly $500 buy-in one-day $100,000 guaranteed runs on Saturday, May 13 at 11 a.m., with unlimited re-entries available until 3:30 p.m.
At the end of the month, SHRT will run another multi-flight $100K guaranteed event over Memorial Day Weekend. This tournament features a $200 buy-in with six starting flights between Wednesday, May 24 and Saturday, May 27, before the field combines to play down to a winner on Sunday.
bestbet offers one event in May
bestbet’s three casinos in the Jacksonville area are an attractive draw for their monthly tournaments. However, only Orange Park has an event in May.
The bestbet Orange Park G.O.P.O. 400 has a $400 buy-in and a $40K guaranteed prize pool. It runs Saturday, May 20 at 12 p.m. with satellites on May 15, 17 and 19.
April highlights from Florida poker tournaments
April brought exciting finishes and life-changing money for poker players throughout Florida. The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open awarded millions in prizes, with winners including:
- Ukrainian Vladslav Shovkovyi topped 3,989 entries in Event #21 ($600 Deep Stack, $1M guaranteed) to win $299,715 in a heads-up chop with David Trager ($288,485). Other final table participants included Darryll Fish (4th – $124,600) and Ari Engel (5th – $94,300).
- Shannon Shorr won his third SHRPO trophy in Event #37 ($10,000 NLH), besting a field of 89 to earn $260,600.
- David Peters ($328,527) and Alex Foxen ($282,573) chopped Event #42 ($50K Super High Roller). Kevin Rabichow ($157,140) and Sam Soverel ($104,760) also made the money from the field’s 18 entries.
- Carlos Loving earned a career-best $153,690 by topping a field of 4,184 in Event #1 ($400 Deep Stack, $500K guaranteed).
- Rodney Turvin won Event #27 ($1,700 Purple Chip Bounty, $100K guaranteed) from a field of 209, good for $50,455.
- Rick Kalgstein got the best of a six-way deal in Event #12 ($200 Big Stack, $150K guaranteed), claiming $26,117 after outlasting 1,775 entries.
- Outside Hollywood, other notable tournament winners from April were:
- Antwan Prince won the inaugural RunGood Poker Series Jacksonville $1,200 Main Event, earning $92,796 in a four-way chop from a field of 628.
- PBKC’s monthly $100K guaranteed drew 981 entries, resulting in a three-way chop between Chip Hawkins, Mike Laufer and Alcides Gomez. All earned $36,898.
- Milind Naik took the top prize ($19,170) in a six-way deal at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa’s $500 Single Day $100K guaranteed event. The tournament received 403 entries for a $173,290 prize pool.
- The bestbet Orange Park G.O.P.O April event had a four-way chop from 214 entries, with Bryan Mullin taking the top prize of $11,848.
