Three suspects have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery outside a Tampa hotel after investigators said the victim first met one of them earlier that morning at Seminole Hard Rock Casino.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the robbery happened during the early morning hours of July 23 outside an Extended Stay America on East Sligh Avenue in Tampa. Detectives said the victim had met Angelina Johnson, 20, at the casino before returning to the hotel.
Investigators say robbery happened in hotel parking lot
After the victim arrived back at the hotel, Johnson and two men approached him in the parking lot, according to investigators. The sheriff’s office identified the other suspects as Mario Dejournett, 22, and Tyrik Griffin, 22.
Authorities said Dejournett and Griffin displayed firearms and robbed the victim of jewelry and a wallet before fleeing. All three suspects are charged with robbery with a firearm involving property valued at $750 or more but less than $20,000.
Sheriff Chad Chronister described the case as “a coordinated, violent crime that left the victim shaken and robbed at gunpoint.”
Arrests involved Pinellas County deputies
Detectives later identified the suspects and obtained arrest warrants, officials said. On July 24, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested Johnson and Dejournett. Both were booked into Orient Road Jail on July 29.
Griffin was arrested by Pinellas County deputies about a week later and was awaiting transfer to Hillsborough County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Chronister said investigators were able to take all three suspects into custody with help from Pinellas County authorities.
For Hard Rock Florida readers, the casino’s role in the case was limited to being the location where the victim and one suspect first met, based on the sheriff’s account. Authorities have not indicated any broader allegation involving Seminole Hard Rock Casino itself.
