Robinhood said its notional crypto trading volume rose 61% in August to $17.5 billion, a sharp month-over-month gain that still came in below last year’s level. For gambling-industry watchers, the more notable detail may be that prediction-market event contracts continue to scale quickly and have already overtaken crypto as a transaction-income driver in the company’s latest reported quarter.
August crypto activity rebounded from July
According to Robinhood’s monthly operating data, August crypto volume reached $17.5 billion, up from $10.9 billion in July. That was still down 38% from the $28.1 billion reported in the same month a year earlier.
The Robinhood app handled $7.4 billion of that August crypto volume, up 72% from July but down 46% year over year. Bitstamp, which Robinhood acquired, contributed another $10.1 billion, up 53% month over month. Combined, Robinhood and Bitstamp averaged $565 million in daily trading volume.
The company also reported broader growth across the platform. Total assets reached $384 billion, up 26% from a year earlier, while funded customers rose to 28.6 million. Margin loans climbed to $21.5 billion, a 72% year-over-year increase.
Prediction markets remain a key watch point
Robinhood said 4.7 billion event contracts traded in August. That was down 23% from July, but still roughly 15 times higher than the 300 million traded in August 2025.
Those products have become increasingly important to Robinhood’s business mix. In the July quarter, revenue from event contracts surged more than tenfold year over year to $156 million, overtaking crypto as a source of transaction income.
Robinhood offers prediction-market products through Kalshi, ForecastEx and its joint venture Rothera. The company said Rothera had processed more than 3.5 billion contracts since launching in June.
That growth is coming as prediction markets face more attention in Washington. The source notes that lawmakers have introduced more than 10 bills since January targeting the sector, including the PREDICT Act.
What to watch next
Robinhood shares fell 0.83% after the update. The company’s next quarterly earnings report is expected on Nov. 4.
For readers tracking gambling-adjacent markets, the main question is whether prediction markets keep expanding despite rising political and regulatory scrutiny in the U.S. The August data suggests Robinhood’s crypto business improved from July, but event contracts remain one of the company’s fastest-growing products.
