Kalshi has reportedly filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for approval to expand its perpetual futures lineup into gold and silver, a move that would push the prediction-market operator further beyond crypto-linked products.

According to the report, the CFTC would have 45 days to approve or disallow the proposed contract. The filing is notable because perpetual futures have drawn increased regulatory scrutiny in the U.S., especially after the regulator allowed Kalshi and Coinbase Global to list similar products.

If approved, the gold and silver perpetuals are expected to begin on a 24/5 schedule rather than the 24/7 format associated with crypto-linked perpetual contracts. The report also said Kalshi is evaluating foreign exchange and equities for similar products, suggesting the company is testing demand well beyond digital assets.

The filing lands in the middle of a broader dispute over how these contracts should be regulated. CME Group has sued the CFTC and its chairman over the agency’s decision to allow Kalshi and Coinbase to list perpetual futures. Separately, CME was set to begin 24/7 trading for its existing 1-Ounce Gold futures on July 26.

For readers who follow Kalshi as part of the broader prediction-markets and event-contract space, the key takeaway is that this is still a regulatory request, not an approved launch. The main item to watch next is whether the CFTC approves or rejects the filing within that 45-day review window.

The report did not include the full proposed contract terms for the gold and silver products, and no approval decision had been reported at the time of publication.
